More about Marinus

Dr. Marinus Winters is a specialized (sports) physiotherapist and manual therapist. He has particular expertise in injuries in the shin and lower leg, and persistent musculoskeletal pain. Marinus completed his physical therapy training in 2010 and has been working as a physical therapist ever since. Since 2016, Marinus has also been a manual therapist. In 2017, he received his doctorate from the University of Utrecht for a dissertation on shin splints, a common shin injury.

Marinus is a real sports fanatic, especially running. In his youth he was among the top athletes in the Netherlands on the athletics track (800/1500 meters) and now runs hard for fun. Besides running, Marinus does tennis, fitness and cycling.

Besides his work in physiotherapy practice, Marinus is involved in numerous activities to promote knowledge and expertise among physiotherapists and (para)medics. For example, on behalf of the Royal Dutch Society for Physical Therapy (KNGF) and the Dutch Association for Physical Therapy in Sports Medicine (NVFS), Marinus has contributed to the multidisciplinary guidelines ‘acute muscle injuries lower limbs in athletes’ and ‘exercise-related pain syndromes of the lower leg’. Marinus also provides courses in the field of lower leg pain symptoms and, in collaboration with sports physicians and other specialists, conducts scientific research on the treatment of various injuries in athletes.
